Development of the Gamification Guide under the Word2Action Project

From February to July 2026, the partners of the Word2Action project (No. 2025-1-RO01-KA220-YOU-000362895), co-funded by the European Commission, worked on the creation of the Gamification Guide for Civic Activism – the project’s main intellectual output. The Guide has been designed as a practical, research-informed, and modular tool for youth workers, supporting the integration of game-based mechanisms into digital media creation for civic engagement.

You can find the Gamification Guide here in 5 languages:

The document highlights that the Guide is a “structured, practice-oriented and research-based resource designed to support youth workers” and that its purpose is “to transform media literacy into an interactive and active process of participation.”

What does the Gamification Guide include?

The Guide brings together theoretical frameworks, practical methods, and ready-to-use activities that youth workers can directly apply in their practice. It covers four key digital media formats:

  • Video content – how video can be used as a tool for civic engagement, evidence-based storytelling, and awareness raising; includes missions, quests, and examples such as the geolocation-based “Mythbusters” challenge.
  • Blogs – gamified structures, storytelling approaches, interactive elements (missions, quizzes, challenges), and examples of ecological storytelling.
  • Podcasts – interactive audio formats, listener participation mechanisms, decision-making elements, and episodic narratives; includes the activity “Your Voice, Your Story.”
  • Digital campaigns – mission-based models, community challenges, reward systems, ethical filters, and case studies such as the “Urban Heroes” campaign.

Why is this resource important?

The Gamification Guide helps youth workers to:

  • turn complex civic topics into accessible and engaging learning processes;
  • strengthen young people’s media literacy and critical thinking;
  • create safe, ethical, and inclusive digital activities;
  • encourage sustainable participation and real community impact.

The Guide was developed in partnership between Asociatia Be You (RO)EUducate (ES)ZPTM Brežice (SI) and Association MoMenTor (BG).

WORD2ACTION, no. 2025-1-RO01-KA220-YOU-000362895, is co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Programme and will be implemented between December 2025 and December 2027.
